Aug. 26, 2006 - Out and About for Galen #2

This one I learned from a client back in...oh...1992.  Everything I attribute to 1978 and 1992 couldn't have really happened in those two years.  Or maybe those two years were just jam packed.

His name was Jim Czukor and he worked for Este Lauder (manufacturing division) and gave me a bunch of makeup as a closing gift.  I just love it when the clients give ME a closing gift...which is often.

Anyway, Jim was relocating from another state and he said, "I need a place to store a classic car that I don't drive, so it can be somewhere away from the house.  I need a place to store my wife's 26 boxes of Christmas decorations.  I want a pool and I don't want any "double line streets".

I got most of it, but wasn't following him on the "double line" thing.  He said some streets have no lines, and those are the best.  Some have a broken line, and those are OK, but not the best.  And some have a double line, and we won't buy a house on one of those.

He is the only person who ever put it in those terms and WOW! what a lesson for life there.  Hey Jim, that middle street up there is mine...NO LINES!

I think that one's my favorite. How bizarre!

These lines clearly are a demarkation of the amount of traffic expect to be on these streets.  Instead of asking how much traffic may or may not be on the street from time to time, go out and check how the persons in charge of marking the streets have voted on the subject.

That makes sense. Still, he could have just said "not too much traffic."

Well, "not too much traffic" is kind of in the eye of the beholder.  Ask anyone who lives on a double yellow line street.  They all think it's not too much traffic :-)  It's not a freeway after all...

If you live on a double-line street, you may have trouble backing out of your driveway. I'm with the guy, no lines is the best.

Wade,

He bought the house in 1993 and recently emailed me that he still lives there.  Guess no lines worked out pretty well for him and his family.
